This makes me happy.
'This' is a Women's Dialogue Forum that is taking place today at King Saud University. The purpose of this forum is for women from different schools, universities and institutes to gather and discuss the future of job opportunities for women in the Kingdom.
Just holding a forum like this gives acknowledgment to the fact that women have the ability to contribute something to society; from home AND from the workplace.
"Among the demands raised by the graduates was training courses for Arabic literature graduates who are interested in entering the media and journalism field in men’s colleges."
I love how they say 'demands'! Yes! These women are standing up for what they know are their intrinsic rights as human being instead of crumbling under the societal pressures to 'be quiet and have babies'. I'm so proud of them!
"Secretary-General of the King Abdulaziz Center for National Dialogue Faisal bin Abdurahman bin Muammar... pointed out that the dialogue would discuss ways to enable women to play a bigger role in the nation’s economic life."
Another fabulous quote that shows that not all men fear the growing power that women are enjoying in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
You can't oppress 50% of your population forever!

I would guess that most women a HAPPY with the way things are!! (That old saying - if it was good enough for my pappy its good enough for me!!)
All this activity and action on the part of those who want to PULL and FORCE such women (the majority I would guess) into a way of life they do not know and at present do not want - maybe such activity is counter-productive. Perhaps just sit back and let human nature takes its own course in its own time - it WILL happen - just not at the speed yiou may desire.

Thank you for your comment. But maybe you are wrong when you make the assumption that the majority of women do not want this way of life.
Perhaps there is only a small minority of women who feel brave enough or safe enough to demand their rights and they are speaking on behalf of their silent sisters.
Why should I sit back and let human nature take it's own course? What am I if not a human? By discussing these issues and demanding equal rights that IS human nature taking it's own course. If not us, who? If not now, when?
If most Saudi women are happy with the way things are, why do some come to Bahrain to get a driver's license. Why do most every Saudi female in the United States (at least ones that I came across) obtain driver's licenses and shuck the black abaya (even the religious zealots are comfortable with wearing modest attire only). I think the issue at heart is not whether the Saudi women want it or not but that they are denied their intrinsic rights. I may have the right to do something but choose not to.
